Languages and Literatures

French

The French program explores the diverse literatures, identities, and cultures of the French-speaking world. All courses are taught in French, provide intensive work in oral and written expression, and are approached from an interdisciplinary perspective. Students may meet prestigious artists, intellectuals, and government figures hosted by the department.

Arabic

The Arabic program introduces students to Arabic language and culture. All courses are taught in Arabic and  provide intensive work in oral and written expression. The language curriculum can be complemented with courses on the Middle East and North Africa offered by departments such as History, Religious Studies, and Anthropology and with off-campus study program options.

About Us

At Grinnell, all studies take place within a liberal arts framework, focusing on the study of German literature and culture through the contexts of the arts, history, social history, philosophy, and politics.
