Modern museums and art galleries have their origins in late Renaissance European private collections of artifacts gathered for study and admiration. This exhibition documents this fascinating intersection of science and art, and explores the shift from private repositories to public institutions. The exhibition draws on Ms. Fearrington's private collection, and was previously exhibited at Harvard's Houghton Library and The Grolier Club in New York City. Florence Fearrington is a former Trustee of the College, 2000-2008.

As an academic library, we rely heavily on our Student Assistants to help with many tasks such as processing and shelving library materials, and staffing public service desks at Burling, Kistle, the Listening Room and Special Collections/Archives. Our Library Student Assistants are an important part of our staff.
This handbook has been prepared to give student employees an understanding of what they can expect from us as faculty, staff, and supervisors, and what we, in turn, expect of ALL student employees in the Libraries.
Drake University announced recently the Central Iowa Collaborative Collections Initiative (CI-CCI), partnering with Grinnell College, Grand View University, Central College and Simpson College.
The Burling Media Room, located on the lower level of Burling Library, houses a collection of nearly 7000 documentary and feature films in DVD, VHS and Blu-ray formats as well as a collection of over 22,000 audio recordings primarily in compact disc format. The facilities offer eight viewing stations with high-definition monitors for individual use or for small groups of up to six persons and two listening stations connected to a variety of playback equipment--from turntables to a reel-to-reel audiotape player--housed in the Media Room office.
