Did you know that Grinnell College used to have horse stables?  I didn't, either, until I found the Kelly Stables plaque (pictured right) in the Vault.  Sometimes, in the course of processing material for special collections or the archives, we come across items like this that capture our attention, but for which we have little information.  It is unclear whether this plaque ever hung in the stables, who made it, or the date it was made.  In fact, we do not have a whole lot of information about the

Library Use Only Videos Moved to Public Access

During Spring Break, videos designated as “Library Use Only” were moved from the Burling Media Room office and integrated into the regular video collection. The move allows all patrons to have more ready access for browsing during library hours and makes it easier for faculty and staff to check these recordings out when the Media Room office is closed.

New Mobile Catalog

Search the library catalog, keep a list of saved items, IM a librarian, or check library hours all on your mobile device. You can also access a few of your favorite databases in our Mobile databases list.

6th Annual Favorite Films Festival

Grinnell College’s Favorite Film Festival is set for this Friday and Saturday, Jan. 27-28, at the campus’ Harris Cinema. Screening dates and times for the selected films are:

  • Friday, January 27 at 9:00 p.m. The Big Lebowski (Favorite Cult Classic)
  • Saturday, January 28 at 6:00 p.m. To Kill a Mockingbird (Favorite Film Adaptation)
  • Saturday, Janaury 28 at 9:00 p.m. Silence of the Lambs (Favorite Movie Thriller)

All screenings are open to the public.

New Faces in the Libraries

We welcome two new Library Research Tutors this spring: Meg Rudy '14 (undeclared) and Liz Holmes '13 (Psychology). Liz, Meg and our returning tutors – Kim Steele, Biva Rajbhandari, Victoria Vertilo and Mateo Jarquin – will provide research tips and strategies online and at Burling's Research Desk. Please stop by!

January 27-29, 2012 6th Annual Favorite Films Festival

The campus community has selected the three films for the 6th annual Favorite Films Festival. The films are:

  • Movie Thriller: Silence of the Lambs
  • Cult Classics: The Big Lebowski
  • Film Adaptations: To Kill a Mockingbird

The Film Festival is scheduled for Jan. 27-29. More information about screening dates and times will be announced.

Films on Demand Streaming Service Trial Extended Until December 21, 2011

The Libraries'  trial of the Films on Demand video streaming service has been extended until December 21, 2011. Patrons may access the full range of films available through the service and are encouraged to share their views of the service as we evaluate it for possible subscription.

2012 Favorite Films Festival Survey Opens

Voting for the films to be shown at the sixth annual Grinnell College Favorite Films Festival has begun.  Members of the college community are invited to log into PioneerWeb and vote for their favorite films in three categories:

  • Movie Thrillers
  • Cult Classics
  • Film Adaptations

The only limit is that the films must be part of the Grinnell College Libraries' collections.
