As millions of Americans struggle with nicotine addiction, Grinnell College biological chemistry researchers have made a discovery that could guide efforts to design drugs to block the effects of nicotine – helping users to overcome this addiction.
Grinnell students learn the ancient skills of hunting and gathering in an unusual course taught by Professor of Anthropology John Whittaker. In this class, students are required to gather acorns and then use prehistoric tools to pulverize them and create a meal (which they are encouraged to taste).

Grinnell College’s Sam Raife ’10 (pictured), from Des Moines, Iowa (Roosevelt), has been named the Midwest Conference Men’s Tennis Performer of the Week.
Due to injuries, Raife played up two spots over the weekend and still went a perfect 6-for-6, winning three singles matches and three doubles matches as Grinnell College blanked Ripon College and St. Norbert College 9-0 and Lawrence University by a 7-2 score.

Pope fired a complete-game four-hitter in a 4-0 victory over Illinois College Saturday, guaranteeing the Pioneers at least a tie of the Midwest Conference South Division. He fanned four batters as Grinnell moved to 8-0 in league play and 17-11 overall.
Grinnell College's JP Prouty '10 (left) was named to the first team of the 2009 National Soccer Coaches Association of America Scholar All-North/Central Region Men's Soccer Team, while teammate Alex Exarhos '10 (right) was a second-team selection.
Grinnell College's Henry Reich '09 has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 7 Men's Track and Field/Cross Country First Team, while Thomas Jamison '09 was a Second-Team selection.
By being named to the First Team, Reich is now in the running to be an NCAA Academic All-American. That team will be named in the near future.
