Alumni Student Award
The best way to create change is to start where you are. Linn B. Davis '08 has been helped instigate campus-wide change by encouraging socially responsible development, investment, and action.
Through his work with groups such as EcoCampus and Free the Planet, he helped convince the College's Board of Trustees to adopt a carbon reduction policy on campus. He has also been a leading voice in the student effort to encourage the College to pursue socially responsible investment strategies.
He was one of the founders of The Voicebox, the College's activist resource center. The center coordinates, advertises, and supports activist groups and events, bringing a new level of visibility to activism on campus.
Davis was one of only 50 students nationwide to receive a Watson Fellowship. The fellowship will fund his a yearlong study of how investigative journalists in India and South Africa hold governments accountable.
In all of his efforts, he is generous, respectful, and thoughtful. One supporter calls him "the most effective student leader I have seen in my over 40 years in academe."
For his dedicated work to make the campus—and the world—a better place, Grinnell is pleased to recognize Linn Davis '08.
