Grinnell College receives Presidential Leadership grant from Mellon Foundation

Grinnell President Russell K. Osgood Grinnell College has received a $250,000 Presidential Leadership grant from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation in support of the College's campus plan and strategic planning process. The Mellon presidential discretionary grant will help Grinnell conduct a needs analysis for a new campus library and for interdisciplinary teaching and learning spaces in the humanities and social studies departments.

Grinnell was invited by the Mellon Foundation to apply for the presidential discretionary funds to recognize "the 11 years of effective leadership by President Russell K. Osgood." During Osgood's tenure, the college has focused on strategic planning to strengthen innovative academic programs and the individually advised curriculum, and to build and improve campus facilities, including a nationally recognized science education center.

"We are grateful to the Mellon Foundation for recognizing our previous successes and the need to revitalize our campus plan as technology and pedagogy change," Osgood said. "The Mellon grant will allow us to immediately engage the campus community in purposeful discussion and evaluation of instructional needs for the liberal-arts education of the future."
