G.I. Joes with Kung-Fu Grip

G.I. Joes with Kung-Fu Grip, 2008 intramural basketball recreational league champions The frenetic pace of college life at the end of the semester can sometimes overshadow small pleasures.

But on May 8, ten Grinnellians—a mix of students and staff—celebrated one of their own. The group brought home the intramural basketball recreational league championship.

Intramural sports have been a part of the Grinnell scene for decades, giving generations of Grinnellians a chance to let off some steam, meet new people, and strut their stuff. With both competitive and a recreational leagues to choose from, players of any skill level can enjoy the action.

This year, teams like the Vengeful Amish, Bicuspids, Hands Like Feet, and The Fighting Chiens battled it out on the basketball court to claim bragging rights. Other intramural teams faced off in flag football, soccer (regular and indoor), 16" softball, racquetball, and sand volleyball. Even more intramural sports are planned for next year.

Tim Hammond, director of intramural and club sports, organizes the intramural sports and also oversees club sports. Club sports, organized by students, offer students even more selection with sports such as fencing, archery, and water polo.
