I spent the past ten days with my family, visiting the newly created park on the Chilean side of Tierra del Fuego, Karukinka. The park was created through a joint venture of Goldman Sachs and the Wildlife Conservation Society of New York.

This picture is of me reclining into winds close to 60 miles per hour. While there we hiked, swam, fly fished, tried to imitate Guanacos, and fell victim to dramatic changes in weather. Here's to hoping it's better in Grinnell!

Hi,

I have been sailing in the Florida straits aboard the sailboat, Corinth Cramer — a 134 foot vessel with a mast height of 110 feet!

Cool!

This photo is of a rock offering on Hanakapia, an isolated (yet popular) beach on the Na Pali coast of Kauai.

Similar offerings were in all rocky beach locations that I visited.

I couldn't help but compare them to the works of artist Andy Goldsworthy, who chose Grinnell's CERA prairie to build one of his rock cairns a few years ago.

A ReNew trip of 18 current Grinnellians have joined 6 alumni (working for the Episcopal Diocese of Louisiana) rebuilding NOLA one house at a time.

Josie Gerrietts (2010) and Josh Tetenbaum (2010) are working on laying the laminate flooring in the front room of a home in the 7th ward. The lines on the exterior wall are at the height that the water settled in the area, almost five feet deep. They were just taken off this week, two and a half years after the Storm.

Dear Ocean,
It's so easy for one to indulge in your beauty and forget to acknowledge the beauty of your faithful followers.

I traveled to Jamaica for a week to visit a friend doing service work in Kingston. On my last day, we spent the morning sea fishing with his host father. As the sun rose, we passed two fisherman making their way out to sea, hoping to make the big catch. We had a successful morning and hopefully those two did as well.

Greetings from Nanjing, China, where I've been teaching Russian to Chinese graduate students at Nanjing University, as part of the Grinnell-Nanjing exchange program founded more than 20 years ago by Andrew Hsieh and now administered by the Center for International Studies. My sons, Alex and Patrick, spent their spring break with me, and we have all enjoyed our experience in China. We've also had fun meeting the Grinnell Corps Nanjing Fellows, Logan Lewis '07 and Maggie Connolly '07, as well as former fellows Austin Dean '06 and Andrew Jacobsen '98, and Grinnellians Felix Zhu '05 and Adam Lorton '07. Another member of the gang is Andrew's son Michael, who graduated from Kenyon College last spring.

Tundra and Trumpeter swans refuel in the Skagit Valley in Washington before flying north. My family and I were recharging our spirits with family and friends and beautiful scenery in the Northwest before the push to finish the year.

My husband and I visited our daughter in New York City. We enjoyed the St. Patrick's Day parade, where we saw the NYC Fire Dept. with flags honoring the FDNY members killed on 9/11.

I spent a few days hiking and enjoying the beauty of the waterfalls in Havasu Canyon, Arizona. Pictured is Havasu Falls, my favorite of the three major waterfalls in the canyon.

During spring break, I traveled around southern Italy… this picture was taken from the Spanish Steps in Rome. My friends and I were all really cold, wet and lost (it had been raining all day). We had been trying to find the Spanish Steps… when we finally found them, it was just as the sun was setting, an absolutely beautiful sight. In the distance you can see St. Peter's Basilica and much of the rest of Rome.
