You are here
Where are you from originally and what do you like most about living in Grinnell?
Though I was born in Los Angeles, I grew up in San Ysidro, CA, right on the US/Mexico border – I could literally see Mexico from my bedroom window! What I like best about living in Grinnell is the opportunity to actually get to know the people that I interact with on a daily basis – from the folks I meet here at the College to the people I pass on the street while walking my dog. People here are not only willing to make eye contact - they actually want to engage in conversations! There are no strangers in Grinnell (only strange but friendly people).
What do you like to do in your free time?
Though I am busy with work, young children, and life as a faculty spouse, when I make time for myself I enjoy good books. But I also manage to sneak in time with trashy magazines or internet websites, and Facebook (of course!). I am a pop culture fanatic as well so I am always up for seeing a movie, on-campus or in-town.
What do you like most about Grinnell students?
What’s not to like? Grinnell students are a fun, passionate bunch. The students I meet here are intellectually curious and eager to share their interests with anyone who asks (or doesn’t). Before taking the job in admission I was a stay at home mom and I was also very taken by how friendly the students were – as a group they were eager to interact with my children and me. Equally impressive is how happy students have been to spend time playing with my dog, Javier. Overall the students’ openness to ideas and people is something I hope my own children will emulate.
