Harriett joined the SHACS staff in 2010, when the College brought counseling services in-house, and became SHACS’ Director in 2012. However, she has been treating Grinnell College students, in off-campus settings, since 1997; she deeply enjoys working with Grinnellians! A Grinnell alumna, Harriett earned her doctorate in Counseling Psychology at the University of Kansas. She is a licensed psychologist and specializes in treating college students. Harriett incorporates a holistic and eclectic approach to therapy and is able to assist students with a wide variety of personal and mental health concerns. She also specializes in working with the LGBTQIA community, the treatment of eating disorders, and in providing group psychotherapy. Harriett views therapy as a partnership between the student and herself in which they collaborate to support the student in achieving the student’s goals for therapy. Harriett can be seen around campus walking her black lab mix, Maya, who shares Harriett’s joy in life.
