Kelly counsels and advises students on all aspects of the career and life skill development process. She coordinates the Spring Break Externship Program, Etiquette Dinner, Unpacking Your Experience series, and Real Skills for the Real World series. Kelly also manages multi-media outreach efforts, including the Center's social media and marketing strategies.
Using her background in mental health counseling, Kelly assists exploratory students with discovering - and trying out - their strengths, values, and interests. She joined the CLS team in the fall of 2013 after completing a master's degree from the University of New Orleans and becoming a National Certified Counselor (NCC). She is certified to administer and interpret the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) and StrengthsQuest assessment, using each of these tools to help students recognize and reflect on what they bring to the table. Her views on career and life exploration are very much holistic and intentional, believing that each Grinnellian holds a wealth of valuable perspectives, opinions, and experiences. She hopes to guide students to a place of purposeful and meaningful integration of this language, so that they are able to articulate and utilize this information in their future endeavors.
Kelly is somewhat of a free-spirit, always up for spontaneous tree-climbs, dancing, or crafts. She enjoys traveling to places near and far, and sees this love of exploration as the perfect qualification for her work with students.
