Since fall 2008, Jennifer Jacobsen ’95 has been serving as Grinnell College’s first full-time Wellness Director. As a student, Jen majored in history and served as a research assistant for Professor Al Jones’ 1996 history of the College. She also earned 12 varsity letters in cross country, indoor track, and outdoor track & field and captained all three teams. After Grinnell, Jen earned her M.A. in sports, health, leisure, and physical studies from the University of Iowa in 1997 and spent eight years as a head men’s and women’s cross country and track & field coach at Methodist University, Franklin & Marshall College, and Lawrence University. Jen coaches the sprinters for Grinnell’s men’s and women’s track teams. In her role at Grinnell, she chairs the Wellness Committee and co-chairs the Harm Reduction Committee, teaches courses in the physical education department, and serves as the Title IX deputy coordinator for prevention, with a focus on active bystander intervention training. Jen is an active member of the National Wellness Institute (NWI), American College Health Association (ACHA), Student Affairs Educators in Higher Education (NASPA), and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). She is currently working toward a Master of Public Health (MPH) from the University of Minnesota. Jen’s on claim to fame is meeting Alex Trebek when she appeared on Jeopardy! in November 2009.
