What I Do
Help guide high school students through the process of finding a college that best fits their academic and extracurricular ambitions and interests (on campus and on the road). Convince students — gently, of course — to apply to Grinnell College because of the truly remarkable, transformative, and unique undergraduate experience we offer our students. Coordinate the tour guide program at Grinnell.
What I Did
Graduated from Grinnell in 2010 with a major in sociology. Participated in varsity cross country and track (captain my senior year). Served as a student advisor in the residence halls and worked at the Grinnell College Preschool. Spent a semester of my junior year studying abroad in Stockholm and living with a Swedish host family (this sparked my desire to travel internationally and immerse myself in different cultures). After graduation, won a Fulbright Fellowship to spend a year teaching at a high school in South Korea.
What I Love
The outdoors — running, biking, snowboarding, and certainly, the hiking and camping combination (s'mores included). The mountains, of course (I'm a native Oregonian), but also the prairie and rolling farmland of Iowa. My family and friends, especially my younger sister. An adventure. Mornings spent lounging at a coffee shop with a newspaper in hand. Evenings devoted to playing board games — I'm quite the competitor. Autumn, bold roast coffee, cinnamon rolls and chocolate croissants (yes, breakfast is clearly my favorite meal).Thanksgiving (most holidays in fact), baking Christmas cookies, making bouquets. Marathon training. Coldplay's newest album, watching Mad Men, reading A Thousand Splendid Suns.
