After finishing Intermediate Arabic II, Farah Omer ’19 and Gray Streetman ’19 wanted to pursue more advanced Arabic study.

In the 2019 spring semester, they worked on a guided reading with Professor Mervat Youssef and explored one of the most important novels by 1988 Nobel Prize for Literature winner Naguib Mahfouz, The Thief and the Dogs. Their final project was to rewrite the story from the perspective of one of the characters. Streetman chose to rewrite a new end for the novel.
