German SEPC

Student Educational Policy Committee

Each department at Grinnell has a student educational policy committee.  An SEPC is a group of students who work with the department to coordinate activities for students and faculty.  Other responsibilities include sending a representative to the Student Council on Curriculum (SCC) and helping in the review process for new and tenure track professors.  The German SEPC is open to all German majors, as well as non-majors who are active in the department.  In case of questions or concerns, please email the German department.

The current co-chairs of German SEPC are Samanike Hengst ’18 and Emma Traband ’18.

Current Activities

Throughout the fall 2011 semester, the German SEPC held monthly film nights and showed movies ranging from Gegen die Wand to Krabat.  SEPC movie nights are open to all students.  Films are shown with English subtitles for the benefit of those who do not speak German.  We also organized a trip to the Amana Colonies for Oktoberfest. Over 50 students, majors and non-majors, participated in the trip.

During the 2017-2018 school year, the German SPEC organized the annual St. Niklaus Tag celebration in the German House, where students enjoyed German holiday treats and got to mingle with professors and other German students. In coordination with the language assistant, there were German film showings. Films are shown with English subtitles for the benefit of those who do not speak German. We also assisted in the 10-year evaluation of the German Department and the assessment of a faculty member.
