The Grinnell-in-Washington program has been suspended for Fall 2020.
As a Grinnell-in-Washington student, you take a 4-credit seminar course taught by a Grinnell faculty member and directly enroll in American University’s Washington Semester Program.
In addition to teaching a course, the Grinnell faculty member will help connect you with Grinnell’s vibrant D.C. alumni network through a community host program, job shadowing, special events, and potential field trips.
AU’s Washington Semester Program consists of an 8-credit academic seminar on one of the program’s 8 concentrations:
- American politics
- foreign policy
- global economics and business
- international law and organizations
- journalism and new media
- justice and law
- public health policy
- sustainable development.
In addition, you will participate in a 4-credit internship that will help you build a network of professional and personal contacts. AU offers several on-campus housing and meal plans, a U*Pass with unlimited Metrorail and Metrobus transportation, and access to all campus resources and student activities.
Interested students apply through Grinnell’s application portal for approval by the deadline. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis and the program is capped at 10 students so it is to your advantage to apply as soon as possible. Students whose applications are approved by Grinnell then apply directly to the Washington semester program for acceptance by AU’s deadlines for U.S. and International students.
