Harp Ensemble consists of harpists from the Grinnell College harp studio along with guest musician’s performing music for harp duo, trio and large ensemble. Repertoire is chosen that fits the interests and technical abilities of the group including works by classical composers, traditional Celtic tunes, and dance arrangements from the Latin Americas, and more. On Wednesdays we rehearse the music and develop the group’s listening, interpretation, and performance practice skills in a fun and relaxed environment. Performances are held each semester in the Faulconer Gallery and the Grinnell College Community.

The Grinnell College music department has seven harps available for student use:

  • Lyon & Healy Salzedo Concert Grand
  • Lyon & Healy 85 Concert Grand
  • Wm Rees 36 string nylon/wire lever harp
  • Kortier 36 string nylon/wire lever harp
  • Stoney End 22 string nylon lap harp
  • Gothic Lap Harp with Brays (used under the supervision of the early music instructor)
  • West African Kora (on display and under the supervision of the ethnomusicology instructor)
