Spring 2022 Planning Messages

COVID-19 Campus Protocol Updates Effective 4-21-22
The past several days have brought an increase in the number of students testing positive for COVID-19. We are thus taking additional proactive steps now to reinforce public health protocols on campus. Shifts to the Modified Blue Activity Level are being made to limit indoor communal eating, except in the student dining hall. We also encourage additional voluntary student testing to inform future public health decisions.

Shift in Campus Activity Level Effective April 15
We have recently seen an increase in COVID-19 cases on campus. Due to this uptick in case counts, we are shifting to a modified blue activity level effective today in which masking is required indoors. All campus events will continue, and visitors are still allowed on campus.

Shift to Modified Green Activity Level Effective March 7
We write today to announce a shift to Modified Green Activity Level and provide updates to activities and mask requirements. The newly updated mask guidance from the CDC along with continued evidence that vaccinated and boosted individuals are well protected from severe health outcomes due to COVID-19 support an easing of restrictions.

Faculty and Staff indoor eating updates
As campus COVID cases continue to remain low and local cases steadily decline, limited indoor eating for faculty and staff will be possible as of Tuesday, February 15 with guidelines.

COVID-19 Omicron Preparedness for Spring 2022
I look forward to welcoming you back to campus and hope that you have had the opportunity to rest and recharge over winter break. Executive Emergency Operations Team members, in consultation with our partners at the University of Iowa, have been preparing for our return to community and the start of the spring semester within the conditions of the omicron variant.

Updates on COVID-19 Testing for Students on Arrival Post Winter Break
As students return to campus from winter break the College will be administering COVID-19 tests at Harris Center. Testing will be offered from 1-5p.m. on Friday, January 21 and Saturday January 22. The residence halls will open a day early (Friday, January 21) to accommodate the testing process

Preparations for Spring 2022
In our transition from a very full fall semester to a most welcome winter break, I write with preparations for our spring semester. I do so with tremendous thanks and admiration for our campus community’s efforts and resolve this fall; they stood us in good stead and can continue to support community health and well-being at Grinnell.
