David Ottenstein will present 13 years' worth of photographic trips to Iowa

Photographer David Ottenstein will present his new book, "Iowa: Echoes of a Vanishing Landscape" in Grinnell on Thursday, Oct. 26.  The event is free and open to the public and will begin at 7 p.m. at The Stew, 927 Broad St., Grinnell.

Ottenstein has traveled and photographed Iowa for 13 years. His new book explores the transformation of the Iowa landscape from one based on the agrarian notion of the small, diversified farms to a landscape geared toward industrial scale agriculture. The book includes a preface by Jonathan Andelson, director of the Center for Prairie Studies at Grinnell College.

He holds a bachelor's degree in American studies with a concentration in photography from Yale University and is a member of the Professional Photographers of America. His commercial work includes architectural, product, editorial and people photography on location and in the studio.
