Dear Grinnellians,

I am pleased to share this video update from campus. You have raised important questions and offered thoughtful suggestions which we will answer in the days and weeks ahead, and we welcome additional questions at a new link available on our COVID-19 information for students web page. We have formed a partnership with a team of pandemecists and epidemiologists who will work with us over the course of the next academic year to ensure that our approach to reopening at Grinnell is one that places the learning and living of our students within a responsible public health framework. The time that most of our students—and students across the country—will spend on campuses this year will be unusual, but we are planning new avenues for social connectedness and engagement for and between students who are on campus and those enrolled online. As generations of alumni can attest, Grinnellians stay connected across time and space. This year will be no exception.

In the near future, we will provide an update on all that we’ve done to prepare for online learning experiences this year. Faculty are engaging in a variety of workshops and trainings designed to move from the emergency management approach that characterized online learning in the spring to a more coordinated and intentional platform upon which to deliver courses and promote student engagement.

In the meantime, thank you for the support shown by many of you during this especially intense period of planning and partnership.

All the best,

Anne Harris
Acting President
