November 22, 2021

As a community and as individuals we need to support our well-being. SHAW is a partner in your well-being and we encourage you to reach out to us. This newsletter includes a list of resources that may offer you additional support. If you are looking for something from a previous weekly update be sure to check the communications page of the COVID-19 Planning and Resources site.

On-Campus COVID-19 Updates

COVID-19 cases continue to rise locally, and over the past week we have experienced a handful of cases on campus. Although our numbers continue to remain low we are closely watching this trend and are working to understand if these cases are related or a result of community spread. Out of an abundance of caution, we are implementing a temporary pause on relaxed masking protocols. Read the full message here.

Changes Effective Today - Monday, Nov. 22, 2021

Campus community members and visitors are required to wear masks at all times indoors unless alone in a closed office space. Classrooms remain masks required at all times, even when alone.

Dining Indoors

  • Employees: Eating indoors in groups is once again not allowed. Employees may continue to unmask briefly to eat in their workspaces.
  • Students: Reinforcement of masking except when actively eating.

Meetings and Events

  • In-person meetings can continue, but all participants must wear masks regardless of group size.
  • Student-only events involving food may continue except in academic buildings. Students must mask when not actively eating.

We remind our community of measures you can take to protect yourself, your colleagues, friends, peers, and family as we enter the colder months with more time indoors and a higher risk of respiratory infection:

  • Get A Flu Shot - A yearly flu vaccine is the most important step in protecting against flu viruses and is required for students.
  • Get a COVID-19 Booster - The CDC has recently updated guidance to permit anyone 18 or older to get a booster and we strongly urge community members to receive a booster dose as soon as possible.
Walk-ins and appointments are available through Hy-Vee, Walmart, Walgreens, and many health providers.
SHAW is partnering with Walmart to assist students in receiving their COVID-19 Booster. Transportation is available through SHAW Monday–Friday from 8 a.m.–5 p.m. Call 641-269-3230 to schedule your appointment for transportation.
  • Stay home if you are sick or test positive
  • Wear a Mask - Wearing a mask can protect you and others from the flu and other air-borne illnesses.

Traveling Internationally over Winter Break?

If you are traveling internationally over break, you must carry your vaccination record and should take time to research and plan pre-departure COVID-19 testing requirements depending on the destination. Many destinations require evidence of a negative PCR test within 72 hours of boarding the flight — but check with your airline and home country consulate.
