Weekly COVID-19 Testing Clinic Update: Dec. 7

December 07, 2020

Dear Grinnellians,

SHAW cares deeply about your health and the health of our community. I will send out two mailings each week. On Mondays, the Update will focus primarily on testing clinic results and notices or information particular to COVID-19 testing and mitigation of spread. On Thursdays, my mailing will focus on health information and tips, and the Grinnell Health Heroes. Thank you for doing your part in keeping our community safe!

We are proud of the commitment our students, faculty, and staff are making every day to prevent transmission. We are heartened by the compassion and support that members of this community give each other.

The Grinnell College Dashboard Receives an “A”

I’m excited to share two external points of validation for the way the College is publishing COVID-19 related data. First, a team from the Yale School of Public Health has given our COVID-19 dashboard an “A” rating. Our dashboard tied for the 2nd highest score among our peer group. Second, the method we use for calculating test positivity rates produces a state-wide longitudinal trend that very closely matches estimates published by Johns Hopkins University for the state of Iowa. This past weekend, the Iowa Department of Public Health released new test positivity rate metrics and ongoing revisions to their historical data. We are monitoring IDPH dashboards as we seek to continuously assess our own methods.

Congratulations to Kaitlin Wilcox and Patrick Hansen who created our dashboard and monitors it daily.  Thank you so much for your very important and recognized contribution!

Concerned About Those Who Increase Risk Due to Non-Compliance?

Most members of our community do a terrific job of following public health guidelines, but occasionally, some may put the community at risk due to non-compliance. As a reminder, Grinnell College urges you to utilize EthicsPoint to anonymously report observed PPE or other public health policy non-compliance issues. This information will help us understand how to better support our campus community with ongoing education and outreach opportunities.

To Your Health,
