The opera world is celebrating the bicentennial of German composer Richard Wagner.  The composer, born on May 22, 1813, wrote some of the best-known operas of the 19th century.

The Grinnell College Libraries hold numerous sound and video recordings of Wagner’s works performed by many of the leading interpreters of his music recorded over the past century.  This includes the recording by Iowa native Simon Estes in his historic performance in the title role of Wagner’s Der fliegende Holländer.
