COVID-19 Campus Update 3-19-20
The Grinnell community is truly global. Our wonderful students are now in all 50 states and in more than 50 countries. Over the next several days and weeks, we will be learning — and learning from each other — what it means to think and grow in virtual community. Grinnell College has, in so many ways, prepared us for the work and experiences ahead, and we look forward to the next challenge with gratitude for everyone who helped us meet the needs of our current situation.
We now must turn our focus to the coming weeks — providing academic continuity and attending to our well-being while responding to the ever-changing public health situation.
Thanks to Volunteers Who Helped Students Move
Over the course of the past week, many individuals have stepped forward and volunteered countless hours to help students move. Students, along with more than 130 faculty, staff, and community volunteers, worked together to help with everything including packing, moving, encouragement, and being a helpful presence. Thank you to all. The COVID-19 response website includes “How to Help” information for anyone seeking additional ways to support students and our community.
Planning for Campus Student Network
For ease of information sharing and to help students connect during social distancing, we are in the process of developing more direct communication channels to engage students living both on and off campus. Expect more information as plans come together.
Alumni College and Reunion 2020 Canceled
Development and Alumni Relations has announced the cancellation of Alumni College and Reunion 2020. This decision was not reached lightly, given the importance of reunions as moments for alumni to come together, to reconnect with each other and campus. All Alumni College and Reunion registrations will be refunded in the next 30 days. Anyone who would prefer to donate their registration fees to the Support Our Students Fund, should send an email to email@example.com by Monday, March 23. For more information check the Alumni College and Reunion website for an FAQ resource or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Community Grocery and Food Resources
The Grinnell Hy-Vee is working to provide grocery pick-up services: check the Hy-Vee FAQ site for more information. We are checking with other grocery stores about arrangements to facilitate social distancing while shopping. The Grinnell Chamber of Commerce Grinnell Business and Organization Update information website includes useful updates about current services and hours. As always, we encourage our campus members to support local businesses with your patronage as circumstances permit.
Please continue to check your Grinnell email and our COVID-19 response website for further updates and communications.
