One English and Theatre Major’s Experience of Grinnell-in-London

In the fall of 2016, Amaris Bates ’18 embarked on a semester of adventure with the Grinnell-in-London (GIL) off-campus study program. An English and theater double major, Bates fell in love with Britain’s rich culture and lively arts scene. While in London, she took classes in London literature and Arthurian legend, mastered the Tube, and interned for the Actors’ Centre, which is associated with the Tristan Bates Theatre. On off days, the Grinnell native kept busy by seeing multiple shows at the famed Globe Theater and traveling through Western Europe. Plus, she even managed to snap a selfie with Alfred Enoch (of Harry Potter and How to Get Away With Murder fame).
