Hood Design, an Oakland, California-based design firm, will preview the public art project to be installed on a vacant lot at Highways 6 and 146 at two public information sessions on Friday, May 12.

Last year, Grinnell College contracted with Hood Design to create a public art piece to help make Grinnell even more inviting for visitors, residents, and newcomers.

Attendees will learn about the project’s background and approach, and get a preview of the design concept presented by the artist, Walter Hood. Two free, public presentations will be offered in Grinnell on Friday, May 12. They will take place from:

  • Noon-1 p.m. at the Caulkins Community Room in the Drake Community Library, 930 Park St.
  • 4-5 p.m. at Faulconer Gallery in the Bucksbaum Center for the Arts, 1108 Park St.

The piece is intended to create a "landmark" presence at this significant corner, engaging both visitors and residents, and celebrating the character of the community and the College.
