The Center for Prairie Studies (CPS) is interested in commissioning student artistic projects inspired by and created in conversation with the prairie region and our locality.

Proposals will be reviewed by a panel of CPS board members, which will commission three works for showcasing at the Conard Environmental Research Area (CERA) late in the spring semester as a part of a celebration of the 50th anniversary of Earth Day.

Each of the three selected proposals will receive a $300 commission and when completed will become part of the center’s collection.

Proposals

Interested students can submit a proposal for a traditional visual art, music, performance, or any other form of expression (other than poetry or prose) that captures the voice of the prairie region.

Proposals should include:

  • a description of the intended work, including how you envision it being displayed or performed in a site-specific manner at CERA
  • a brief artist’s statement on how it interacts with or comments on the prairie
  • an estimated cost of materials
  • (optional) any past work in the medium

Email proposals to Jan Graham at the Center for Prairie Studies.

Deadlines

Proposals are due Feb. 14.

Final submissions are due April 15.
