Jennifer R Krohn

Senior Research Associate, ADA Coordinator

Personal

Jennifer began working at Grinnell College in 1989 as an associate dean in student affairs and later as dean of students.  While she was overseeing the residence life program during the late 1990s, the Pancake Study Break began and it continues today. Bear, a Bernese Mountain Dog, greeted students in the early years of this event. Beginning in 2003, Jennifer has organized the therapy dog group for Pancake Study Breaks and other events on campus.

In 2007, Jennifer left student affairs to create Accessibility Services and the Accessibility Committee. The purpose of the Accessibility Committee was to educate the College community in a “grass roots” manner on accessibility issues and ADA compliance, and to move the College beyond compliance. Jennifer worked with other administrators in 2008 to establish an accommodation policy for employees and became the ADA coordinator.  The Accessibility Committee took on the task of identifying and prioritizing areas of the campus that needed to be made accessible.

In addition to these responsibilities, in 2009 Jennifer was asked by the dean to serve as the IACUC Coordinator and work with faculty to implement a compliant IACUC committee and obtain a PHS Assurance.  On March 29, 2010, the College’s PHS Assurance became effective.  In 2011 Jennifer was asked to take on the responsibilities of the IBC Coordinator and work with faculty to establish an IBC that became fully functional January 2012.

Jennifer continues to chair the Accessibility Committee, serves as the ADA Coordinator, IACUC Coordinator, and IBC Coordinator, and organizes dogs for the Pancake Study Break each semester.
