Hai-Dang Phan's teaching and scholarship focus primarily on ethnic American literature, poetry and poetics, translation, and the legacy of the Vietnam War in literature and culture. A graduate of Grinnell College and a former Watson Fellow, he holds an M.F.A in creative writing from the University of Florida and a Ph.D. in literary studies from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. His translations of poetry from the Vietnamese appear in AsymptoteThe Brooklyn RailDrunken BoatCerise PressAnomalousWaxwing, St. Petersburg Review, and received a fellowship from the American Literary Translators Association. His own poems have been published or are forthcoming in The New YorkerLana TurnerEveryday Genius, The Volta, Diagram, and elsewhere. A chapbook, Small Wars, is forthcoming from Convulsive Editions in 2015.
