My research focuses on understanding the cognitive processes involved in learning, using, and understanding language, particularly written language. Much of my work examines the role of context in helping us recognize the meanings of words we know and in helping us learn the meanings of words we don’t know. I am also interested in individual differences in word recognition, especially how differences in reading comprehension and spelling ability can influence the words are recognized, understood, and learned.
