Campus Safety Officer

Students can come to John:

  • about a student/faculty/staff member in need of help or aid to report lost or stolen property
  • to report threats and assaults
  • if they feel uncomfortable with something or someone
  • if they feel unsafe and need to be escorted
  • if just want to say hi

John started working for Grinnell's Safety and Security department in 1999. Within the division of Student Affairs, he is responsible for student health and safety, reporting incidents that affect the college community, and providing aid and looking out for the safety of Grinnell students, faculty and staff. He makes sure laws, rules and regulations that affect the college as a whole are being implemented. John is a former member of the Grinnell Police Department. He has also worked at the Grinnell Regional Medical Center for 10 years, and has worked with many of the local nurses and doctors, and the health staff at the college. He believes in honesty, and treats everyone the same, with respect, irrespective of whether they are at their best or their worst.
