As Grinnell College’s inaugural Campus Employment Learning Program Manager, Jess focuses on developing meaningful on-campus employment opportunities that enable students to develop intellectually, build career-readiness skills, and gain meaningful work experience while making valuable contributions to the campus community.
Jess is a native Iowan and earned a BA in graphic communications from the University of Northern Iowa in 2009. After working in banking for two years, she began her career in higher education in 2011 at the University of Iowa. There she oversaw a decentralized student employment program for the largest library system in the state and later designed and launched a high-impact student employment program for the university honors program, which earned her the recognition of Student Supervisor of the Year in 2016. Before joining the CLS, Jess spent two years at Oregon State University researching the future of work while spearheading a sophisticated market research function for OSU’s online degree programs.
Jess describes herself as an inquisitive, life-long learner. She enjoys reading non-fiction and thinking too much, preferably while lying in a hammock. You will likely find Jess exploring the great outdoors with her husband or dreaming up their next grand adventure. It is doubtful you will ever see her without her notebook and coffee, and she loves dogs, breakfast food, plants, Microsoft Excel, and the Oregon Coast.
