Belinda joined the Academic Advising team in the summer of 2014. You can find her on the 3rd floor of the JRC. Her work focuses on training and overseeing the mentors and tutors for the Humanities and Social Studies divisions. She also holds office hours for academic advising and enjoys working one on one with students on any issues that are creating barriers to academic success.
Belinda is an Iowa native. She earned her BS in Sociology and Political Science from Iowa State University in 2001, and then relocated to the Blue Mountains of Walla Walla, Washington to work as a School Social Worker in an elementary school. After two delightful years, she moved to Fort Collins, Colorado and worked in community mental health while earning her Masters in Social Work and Education. For four years, Belinda worked as a School Counselor at an alternative high school, then earned her Principal license and worked as Dean of Students for four years in Longmont, Colorado. Despite Belinda’s profound love for the Rocky Mountains, the itch to return to Iowa set in soon after her daughter was born. Now that she’s finally made it home, she could not be happier to be a Grinnellian! In her spare time, you will find Belinda on her family’s homestead outside of Deep River, where they are making efforts to live a self-sufficient and sustainable way of life.
