Andrea Conner is originally from Glidden, Iowa, a small farming town in the western part of the state. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Coe College in music and theater and went on to earn her master’s degree from Iowa State University in higher education administration/student affairs. When she’s not at work, Andrea has a busy and happy family life with her partner, toddler, and several cats and dogs. Andrea adds that her “avenues for rejuvenation include the arts, especially live music and musical theater, traveling, dance parties with [her] kid, boating, singing, and home renovations.”
Andrea’s favorite part of Grinnell College is how engaged the students are. She loves that students are paying attention to how the college works, which allows the college to put their experiences at the forefront and listen to their opinions more carefully. She also adds that she works with lovely people in the Division of Student Affairs and they make her proud every day.
As Associate Vice President of Student Affairs, Andrea leads the Division and oversees different departments, programs, and staff. She also participates in the College’s governance and contributes to the over-arching efforts to increase student success and well-being.
The Division of Student Affairs includes the Dean of Students, Campus Safety, International Student Affairs, Intercultural Affairs, Religious Life, Residence Life, Student Activities, Student Assistance, Student Health and Counseling Services, and Wellness.
The Student Affairs suite is located on the third floor of the Joe Rosenfield ’25 Center and houses several of the departments. For more information, stop in the office Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. or call 641-269-3702.
