David Cook-Martín

Assistant Vice President for Global Education

David Cook-Martín is a professor of sociology at Grinnell College and assistant vice-president of global education. As a political sociologist, his work focuses on migration and citizenship policy. He holds a Ph.D. in Sociology from UCLA, an MA in Sociology from the University of Houston, and B.A. from Wheaton College. He has also worked in the child welfare field as director of a multi-disciplinary nonprofit. David is a former Andrew W. Mellon Fellow in Latin American Sociology Mellon (UCLA), and a National Science Foundation postdoctoral fellow (UC Irvine).

He teaches a seminar on political sociology, intermediate level courses on methods, the sociology of law and migration, the state, race and science, as well as introductory sociology courses. David enjoys mentoring students in advance research projects like MAPs.
