Kelly Guilbeau
Assistant Director of Advising and Exploration

Using her background in mental health counseling, Kelly assists exploratory students with discovering—and trying out—their strengths, values, and interests to understand themselves professionally, personally, and civically. She joined the CLS team in fall 2013 after completing a master’s degree at the University of New Orleans and becoming a National Certified Counselor (NCC). Certified to administer and interpret the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI), Strong Interest Inventory, and StrengthsQuest assessment, Kelly uses these tools to help students recognize and reflect on who they are and who they want to become. Her views on career and life exploration are holistic and intentional, believing that each Grinnellian holds a wealth of valuable perspectives, opinions, and experiences. She hopes to guide students to a place of purposeful and meaningful integration of these ideas so they can articulate and use this self-knowledge in their future endeavors.

Kelly serves as a CLS Adviser to a cohort of 1st-year students each year. She coordinates the Spring Break Externship Program, plus various skill- and identity-development programming, such as the Etiquette Dinner, unpacking-an-experience series, @Work series, and the LinkedIn photo-booth. Kelly also manages multimedia outreach efforts, including the Center’s social media and marketing strategies.

Kelly is somewhat of a free-spirit, always up for spontaneous tree-climbs, dancing, or crafts. She enjoys traveling to places near and far, and she sees this love of exploration as the perfect qualification for her work with students.
