Gregg R. Narber '68

Offices, Departments, or Centers:

Narber earned a B.A. in political science and Latin American studies at Grinnell, followed by an M.A. in political science and a law degree from Washington University in St. Louis in 1971. In 2007, he earned an M.A. and Ph.D. in history at the University of Iowa. He was a visiting assistant professor of history for four years at Luther College. Narber has worked for the Principal Financial Group in Des Moines, Iowa, where he was senior vice president and general counsel. He served a three-year assignment as chief operating officer of BrasilPrev, a Principal joint venture in São Paulo. There, he researched and wrote about rural messianic movements, work honored by the Academy of Arts and Letters of the state of Bahia. Narber was a member of the house of delegates of the American Bar Association, the Iowa Attorney General’s Task Force on Alternative Dispute Resolution, and the State of Iowa Human Services Council. He has also served on the boards of the Des Moines Symphony, the Metro Arts Council in Des Moines, and the Des Moines Art Center’s acquisitions committee and board of trustees, where he was president from 1997 to 1999.
