Pat Smith started playing guitar in 1969 and began teaching in 1974. Growing up in the Chicago area he has always been deeply in to Blues and R&B music. Attended two years at Coe College playing in the jazz band and show choir. Many years of professional playing in many styles. Moving to California in 1987 he formed the Penguin Jazz Quartet, producing two CDs, still available on iTunes. Also formed the Brazilian band Nossa Bossa which was picked by Bose Corp to help debut the PS1 system. Moving back to Iowa in 2008 he has played with Bassist Richard Wagor, producing the CD "Iowa Duets". Pat has composed music for the Red Cedar Chamber Group and the San Francisco Shakespeare Festival. He currently teaches at Grinnell, Cornell, and Kirkwood Colleges as well as the Marion Music Academy. Pat also plays with the nine piece band Brass Transit Authority.
