Over commencement weekend, computer science faculty members announced the winners of the department’s two annual senior prizes: the Robert N. Noyce Senior Student Award and the Henry M. and Theresa P. Walker Endowed Prize for Excellence in Computer Science.

Sarah Oide ’23 is this year’s recipient of the Robert N. Noyce Senior Student Award. “This award goes to a senior who, in the judgment of the selection committee, has made the greatest contribution to the use of computer-based technology while a Grinnell student,” says Peter-Michael Osera, professor and chair of computer science. The award recognizes not only individual accomplishment but the breadth and depth of the student’s contribution.

Oide, a psychology major with a concentration in digital studies, was a Vivero Digital Fellow during her time at Grinnell. She begins a full-time position at a health technology company this summer and plans to continue her work in digital studies.

The 2023 Henry M. and Theresa P. Walker Endowed Prize for Excellence in Computer Science has been awarded to Eamon Worden ’23. The prize is given annually to a graduating computer science major who has demonstrated excellence in computing and technology as an undergraduate and, “who shows substantial promise for continued contributions to computing and technology in the future,” says Osera.

Worden will begin his Ph.D. candidacy at the Worcester Polytechnic Institute this fall. There, he is joining the laboratory of Dr. Neil Heffernan to study computer science and learning sciences.

Congratulations to Sarah Oide and Eamon Worden!
