Grinnell College collaborates with regional institutions to secure NSF grant supporting high-performance computing in Iowa

Grinnell College is proud to be part of a team led by the University of Northern Iowa that recently received prestigious grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF) to advance high-performance computing capabilities in the Midwest. 

Grinnell’s Charlotte Christensen, Associate Professor of Physics, and Mike Conner, Linux Systems Administrator, are key members of the collaborative team awarded the grant titled "High-performance computing solutions for small Midwest institutions" (OAC- 2346616) through the NSF's Campus Cyberinfrastructure program. Macalester College, Central College, and Coe College will join Grinnell and the University of Northern Iowa on this project. 

The grant, totaling $173,368 over one year, aims to facilitate the planning and development of a regional high-performance computing network. Grinnell’s portion of the grant amounts to $21,259. Participating institutions will convene to strategize on addressing research and classroom needs through high-performance computing, identifying opportunities to utilize centralized resources effectively. The project will explore avenues to expand the network to encompass other local institutions, including community colleges.
