Grinnellians chart their own courses.

Most big universities make you fulfill a pre-set list of breadth requirements. And yes, college should broaden your outlook. But checklists don’t leave you as much room to shape your own education.

Grinnellians take charge of their college experience. There’s only one required course outside your major: the First-Year Tutorial. The rest is up to you and your faculty adviser. Over four years, you work together to craft an individual curriculum — your journey through Grinnell never looks quite like anyone else’s.

Through this intensive, iterative process, you inquire broadly and reflect deeply. You learn to more fully engage your talents — in class, in the community, and around the world. Meanwhile, you and your adviser build a close working relationship that can blossom into a lifelong connection.
