Morris Pelzel
Director of Academic Technology
Morris Pelzel is the Director of Academic Technology for Grinnell College. Mo earned the Ph.D in religious studies from the Catholic University of America, and for twelve years was a full-time faculty member at Saint Meinrad School of Theology in Indiana, where he offered a wide range of courses in systematic theology and Catholic studies. He then transitioned toward a focus on academic technology, earning a masters degree in Instructional Systems Technology from Indiana University.
Prior to arriving at Grinnell, Mo was the Digital Pedagogy Designer for the Mellon grant, “Collaborative Pedagogies in the Digital Age,” at Austin College in North Texas. He supported a wide range of faculty digital pedagogy projects there involving web publishing, digital annotation, digital storytelling, mapping, 3D printing, audio/video production, and other types of digital practices and resources. He also taught a course entitled “How the Web Works: Building Your Digital Identity, Literacy, and Network.” Mo is a strong advocate of open connected learning and the priority of student agency, inquiry, and imagination.
