What I love about my territory: Two words: Southern Hospitality! Between the lovely people, the amazing food, warm winters, and vibrant cultural traditions, you can’t ask for more! Also, some of my dearest friends at Grinnell hailed from these states originally, so these states are full of amazing talent, intellect, compassion, and generosity.
What I love about Grinnell: The people! Grinnellians are some of the most wonderful people on the planet (and I’m not just saying that because I’m an alumna!). I also love that you can still see stars in the night sky in Grinnell.
Hobbies/activities: I love a good puzzle, sewing (I’m currently learning how to quilt), and reading fiction and non-fiction. I also serve as a Restorative Justice facilitator and mentor in my local community.
Advice about searching for schools: Stay organized! Make a list of your college must-haves (potential majors, extracurriculars, internship and research opportunities, etc.), and as you research schools, check off which schools match your criteria and the quality of the match. Also, don’t just read the information that comes in the mail. Research their websites, go on a campus visit (in person or virtual), and try to speak to current students in college about their experiences to see if their experiences align with what you are looking for.
Advice about applying to schools: Know your deadlines, ask for recommendation letters early, take your time completing the application to avoid careless mistakes, and ask for help if/when you need it!
