Dr. Hyejin Joo won the gold medal at the Seattle International Piano Competition and top awards from the Wideman, Chautauqua, Indiana University Concerto Competition, Seoul National University Concerto Competition, and the Kumho Art Foundation Audition. She is a member of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago and Stellio Piano Trio, prizewinner of Plowman Chamber Music Competition, Semi-Finalist at the Fischoff Chamber Music Competition and guest artist for the Peninsula Music Festival ChamberFest. Dr. Joo entered Seoul National University with the highest distinction and was granted the position of Associate Instructor upon entering Indiana University. She received her Master’s degree and the Performer Diploma at IU with full scholarship under the tutelage of Arnaldo Cohen and holds a Doctorate from Northwestern University with full scholarship and program honors, where she studied with Alan Chow. She performed with the Northwestern Symphony Orchestra as the winner of the annual Concerto/Aria competition and was invited to perform with the Bienen String Ensemble, both under the baton of Maestro Yampolsky. Joo was selected to represent Northwestern at the Gilmore Piano Festival and performed as a soloist in the 67th Peninsula Music Festival’s opening concert and Evanston Symphony Orchestra's 2021-2022 season finale. She performed at renowned venues such as Chicago Symphony Orchestra Hall, Ravinia Bennett Gordon Hall and at numerous stages across USA, Canada, Korea, China and Germany. Most recently, she recorded piano duets with Professor Sojung Lee for the Korean Folk Song Project, Rhythms of Korea. As an active collaborative pianist, she performs recitals with members of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Dr. Joo currently works as the Applied Piano Faculty and Collaborative Pianist at Grinnell College and also serves as faculty at Central College.
