Devin Robertson
Contract Counselor
My name is Devin Robertson. I provide various services at SHAW one day a week. I am a Army Combat Veteran. I received a Bachelor of Science in History in 2013 from the University of Montevallo and a Master of Social Work from the University of Iowa in 2018. I am a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) in the State of Iowa and a Permanent Licensed Social Worker in the territory of Puerto Rico. I have worked in the mental health field since 2014 in a variety of settings including homelessness, special needs, general population and veterans. I believe in the importance of a friendly safe environment to achieve a therapeutic rapport. I also believe in being casual and authentic, allowing people to feel safe and comfortable. Through my observation, many people feel alone and unsafe in sharing many important aspects of themselves, and I want to be a safe place for them. During our life cycle, we experience times of chaos and struggle during which we lose our sense of certainty and identity. In the wrong environment, this is viewed by many as the very end, but, in the right safe therapeutic environment, this can be viewed as the “The Beautiful Destruction” and the beginning of a new chapter. I do not believe that there is one cookie cutter way to solve the issues of the world, but with the use of various solution focused techniques and modalities, significant progress can be made.
