We encourage you to bring your own computer to campus to enhance your experience at Grinnell College. We allow your system to connect to our wired and wireless network and provide network services if you bring your own computer to campus.
Information Technology Services is very excited to now provide unlimited access to Lynda.com for all students, staff and faculty. Lynda.com is an online library of courses covering topics from photography to project management.
Here are just a few of the benefits to using Lynda.com:
The Software We Support
The following is a list of software currently being delivered to desktops on campus, either pre-installed on systems or available by request/approval. This is by no means an exhaustive list, but is indicative of the software we provide.
Note: Many of the "upon request/approval" software titles are limited due to cost and/or licensing arrangements. Some titles may require approval from the ITS Director prior to purchase or installation.
Contact a member of desktop support for more information.
Guiding Principles of ITS
ITS's planning and initiatives are derived from the ITS Mission and Vision Statements and the College's overall Strategic Plan. The ITS Mission is to work in partnership with the faculty to make Grinnell College a leader among liberal arts colleges in the application of information technology to teaching, research, and scholarship. The ITS Mission is also to work in partnership with other administrative offices to implement efficient and cost-effective administrative processes and information systems (From Trustee Presentation, 9/30/05).
Information Technology Assessment & Planning Committee
In the past year we made three improvements:
Creative Computing Lab, Technology Services Desk, and Training Lab in the Forum
The Creative Computing Lab (CCL) in the Forum supports media-intensive computing, creative projects, data representation, and research and provides a showcase for campus projects using new media technologies.
The After Hours Technology Services Desk and a PC/Mac equipped 15-station training lab are accessed through the Creative Computing Lab.
A portion of the CCL is devoted to comfortable, informal seating including a "data bar" with wireless Internet access and self-serve, a media-oriented "living room" for the campus.
The wooden booths and white wire chairs were retained from the Forum Grill operation; booths have received a modest update in the form of laptop plug-ins.
We hope the Creative Computing Lab draws people in, promotes a collaborative atmosphere, and enhances awareness of the facility and media-based projects.
If you are interested in reserving the CCL or the Training Room please contact Conference Operations at 269-3235.
ITS supports student, faculty, and staff information technology needs. Grinnell’s versatile ITS staff supports campus computing, network, and phone systems; collaborates with faculty to apply information technology to teaching, research, and scholarship; and works with administrative offices to plan and implement efficient process and information systems.
