Irene Powell

Irene Powell is Professor of Economics at Grinnell College.  She teaches Econometrics, the Economics of Developing Countries, Health Economics, and the Economics of Gender.  Irene received her Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin – Madison in 1985.  She has done research in the areas such as the economics of child care, gender discrimination, and the income distributional effects of monopoly.  Her research has appeared in edited volumes and journals such as The Journal of Human Resources, The Review of Economics and Statistics, Industrial Relations, and Child and Youth Care Forum, The Journal of Business Education.  She spent a year in Washington D.C. doing economic policy analysis in the Human Resources section of the GAO.   Irene is coauthor (with Mark Montgomery) of a mystery novel, Theoretically Dead (New Victoria Publishers, 2001).
