The Production
Streaming of the National Theatre’s encore production of the political drama I’m Not Running will take place on Sunday, April 14. I’m Not Running is an explosive political drama exploring personal choices and their public consequences.
This drama explores the private and public lives of politicians, the secret relationships, and political consequences. It is a female-led play, focusing on one woman’s journey through the world of campaigning, politics, and potential candidacy for leadership.
The story revolves around Pauline Gibson, a junior doctor who becomes the face of a campaign to save her local hospital. She’s thrust from angel of the National Health Service to becoming an independent Member of Parliament. In the Houses of Parliament, she crosses paths with her university boyfriend, Jack Gould, a stalwart Labour loyalist, climbing the ranks of the party.
As media and public pressure mounts on Pauline to run for leadership of the Labour party, she faces an agonizing decision…
Siân Brooke, who plays Pauline Gibson, is known for her television roles in the BBC’s Sherlock and Doctor Foster. She also played Ophelia in the National Theatre’s production of Shakespeare’s Hamlet.
