Education Learning Outcomes

Mission Statement

Grinnell College aims to educate people who are “are prepared in life and work to use their knowledge and their abilities to serve the common good.” In this spirit, the Education Department believes that teacher candidates should be equipped with the necessary integrity and critical literacy skills to unlearn and dismantle systems of oppression, particularly those that operate in schools. Grinnell’s TEP carefully guides teacher candidates through rigorous scholarly inquiry and sequential clinical field experiences, preparing candidates to transform their classrooms into places that are equitable and responsive to all students.

Learning Outcomes

Students seeking education licensure will:

  • Cultivate classroom communities of care that promote the growth and wellbeing of all students.
  • Identify and implement inclusive and responsive instructional strategies.
  • Create lessons and units for domain-specific subject matter that apply research-based pedagogy within the discipline.
  • Act ethically and reflexively in their classrooms and in their roles as stewards of public schools.
  • Evaluate, analyze, and use evidence to inform their professional practice.
