On Sept. 28, Grinnell College will dedicate Renfrow Hall to Mrs. Edith Renfrow Smith ’37, DHL ’19, and her inspiring life of achievement, service, and generosity. The ceremony will celebrate not only the opening of this unique space but will also honor the remarkable legacy of Mrs. Edith Renfrow Smith.
The Grinnell Chamber of Commerce hosted a free event for all Renfrow Hall students, which included some samples from local restaurants, a scavenger hunt of downtown businesses, and gifted Renfrow Hall student discount cards to use at local retailers and restaurants.
When Justina Lee ’22 visited Grinnell, she found a vibrant and supportive global community. Four years later, she has embraced opportunities to study abroad, perform with the Latin American Jazz Ensemble, and take on advocacy and mentorship roles.

Coming from a small town in Minnesota, Maddie McCabe ’22 was struck by the diversity and passion within Grinnell’s student body. She joined the track team, found a job hosting events as a Class Ambassador, and worked with her on-campus mentors to identify her core values, do nutritional research, and prepare for a career in public health.
Tatum Watkins ’27, a second-year political science major at Grinnell, served as a delegate at the Democratic National Convention (DNC) in Chicago in August.
